Megalania not reaching full growth

I was growing my meg and I reached full growth but it decided to put me straight back to the start of sub it makes no sense because this has happened twice to me of the Megalania please help me I really wanna play the Meg to its full capabilities

I saw my progress bar reset with a message saying you have reached the sub adult stage when I was already in the sub adult stage
